Highway Access
French Lick and West Baden are accessible from two state roads and one U.S. highway. U.S. highway 150 connects with U.S. 231 and U.S. 41 (at Vincennes) from the west. From the east U.S. 150 connects with U.S. 37 and Interstate 65; from the south (New Albany / Louisville area) via Interstate 64.
State Road 56 runs through French Lick and West Baden. State Road 56 connects with U.S. 37 and Interstate 65 (Scottsburg) from the east. From the west, State Road 56 connects with U.S. 231 (Jasper - Haysville).
State Road 145 connects with State Road 56 in French Lick from the north. From the south, State Road 145 connects with Interstate 64.
Air Access
The French Lick Municipal Airport is located about eight miles from French Lick and about ten miles from West Baden. French Lick Municipal Airport can handle all propeller - driven and turbo jet aircraft that have gross weights up to 60,000 lbs. Commercial Flight Services are available at three airports within driving distance. Indianapolis International Airport is located approximately 2 1/2 hours north of French Lick and West Baden. Indianapolis International has 200 daily departures, nonstop or direct service to 45 destinations from 18 major air carriers. Louisville International Airport is located five miles from downtown Louisville, KY and approximately 1 1/2 hours from French Lick and West Baden. Louisville International has 95 daily departures, nonstop or direct service to 53 destinations from 15 major carriers. Evansville Regional Airport is a full service regional airport located north of Evansville on U.S. 41, 1 1/2 hours from French Lick and West Baden. Evansville Regional has 50 daily departures to eight hub cities from six major carriers.
Rail Access
Freight access is available at Dubois, IN located 16 miles southwest of French Lick and West Baden. The line is operated by Indiana Railway Museum Inc. The track runs between Dubois and Huntingburg, where it connects with the Norfolk and Southern system. CSX (Chessie/Seaboard Expanded) operates out of Orleans, about 20 miles northeast of French Lick and West Baden.
Amtrak commercial passenger service is located in Indianapolis and runs to Chicago. Rail service no longer exists to bring visitors to French Lick or West Baden from Major cities. Passenger Tourist Trains run at the Indiana Railway Museum. The scenic passenger trips depart from French Lick and travel nine miles south to Cuzco located in Dubois County. |
